Why is there a third prong on an electrical plug? In case you didn't know, the ground connector is located on the third prong of a plug. It is circular in shape and sits beneath the two blade-style plug protrusions. It's a must-have for outdoor extension cords and any device that isn't completely shielded. Consider it an emergency route for electricity to take if an electrical device experiences a short circuit or other fault.
