After a bit of experimentation the springs for holding the slide-on lid are now working. For real world applications one would probably want to glue an additional layer on top to hide and protect the springs and probably offer a finger hole or serrations to make it easer to slide the lid back open.
The springs can already be enabled in Box2. The additional layer - that would also make the lid flush with the box - is still missing, though.
