The Tumbler consists of an enclosed cylinder turned on its side which rotates around an axle through its center axis.
In order to protect the thin walls form the shearing forces of rotation and to securely hold the axle a center hub is fitted on each side.
In order to facilitate the loading and dumping of objects and particles, a hatch is fitted to the side of the cylinder in such a way that it can be rotated over a bin to quickly dump out its contents when switching them out during a performance.
The prototype's hatch was found to be too narrow. Subsequent hatches will have a broader aspect ratio.
The drum is then suspended by passing the axles through pillow block bearings mounted on a foldable wood frame. A crank is fitted which will be used to control the instrument performance.
