Gunshot location systems like shotspotter are proven to work well for cities, aiding dispatchers in confirming gunfire incidents and precisely locating shooters. However, each of these systems are heavily patented (proprietary, incredibly expensive) and power hungry. Cities that pay for these systems must also agree to a yearly subscription and are not allowed to host their own backend.
We think it's time to help push this type of system towards an open and affordable future, so we've designed Project Shumway with a solar panel, battery, mic and wireless MCU. With this, concerned citizens can install these units outside their homes and connect them to their home wifi. Once connected, they correlate events at a central server by trilateration on a map, in order to feed data to dispatchers for correlation with 911 calls, etc.

Our solar charger acts as a nano smart grid, which automatically stores excess energy while powering the system and releases stored energy when solar energy is low.
