Last year I worked on a project to try and increase the energy output of a vibration energy harvesting system using a magnetic dynamic magnifier. This consisted of a second cantilever to add a degree of freedom with magnets to add non-linearity. This system was supposed to increase the amplitude of the vibration. However, we found very unusual behavior in some conditions where the amplitude was substantially less than without the system.

I am looking to investigate this phenomenon to see if it can be used for suspension. In particular, I am interested in whether this can be used to limit the energy transmitted to a structure in an earthquake, as this is a problem we are currently experiencing here.
