I've always wanted a way to safely set off firework so I decided to build one. The brains are a arduino which controls a 12v relay which intern controls the car lighter. Can be triggered with the button to start the timer or with a TV remote control from a safe distance

Have you considered using say a 10ohm resistor as an electronic match? E.g. http://www.bigclive.com/ignite.htm

Works well, add a pin board to trigger multiple fireworks.
