Hardware/Materials

  • Arduino Nano
  • SK6812 LED Strip
  • 120VAC to 5V (2A) Wall adapter
  • Pine Wood
  • Stain
  • White Paint

Constructions

I would like to say that I possess exact measurements for the mountainscape, however, that is not the case. The design was a variety of random cuts and cuts to counteract those random cuts. Ultimately the take away here is that you do not need a specific design and a little bit of randomness will add uniqueness.

Finishing

Wood stain and white paint were all that was needed to finish the mountains. I first applied a few layers of stain until it was the desired darkness/color. Then came the snow-caps on the mountains, I decided for a hard-cut off to go with the geometric design. For this pieces of tape were laid horizontally across each peak with varying heights.

Hardware

To abstract the HAL layer I opted to use an Atmega328 allowing easy programming using an Arduino as an ISP. There are 3 main components of the PCB board. The first is a 5V input, which will have a 120VAC to 5VDC wall adapter soldered to the bottom pads. Second is the output, which will have thick copper planes connecting the 5V wall adapter input to the 5V and GND input of the NeoPixel string. it will also include a Data In solder pad to connect the Atmega chip to the NeoPixel strip. Lastly some GPIOs are broken out for future development.
