2 WiPhones with LoRa daughterboards can exchange text messages using the regular text message interface on the phone.
It works just like sending a text message. Contacts have an optional LoRa address field that can be entered in the same place you set up phone contacts. When you send a text there is an option to send either to the contact's LoRa or SIP address.

Economies of scale. We don't sell many of these.
You are welcome to try to make one for less without a day job to support yourself and see how that turns out.
You'll need to decide if you're willing to work for free for 2 years to get all the engineering work done. And if you can't do EE, ME, and software, plan to also pay for 1-2 other guys to help you with it, unless you have friends who also want to work for free.
And if you can't do marketing, good luck finding anyone to buy them.
All that and the market for these may top out at less than 5000 units.
