Based on my research on electromagnets, The Fork Organ is an original instrument for live performance. It uses "digital" square waves to precisely drive strong electromagnets at the resonant frequency of nearby tuning forks. When a magnet switches "on" and "off" at juuuust the right frequency, it creates a tiny magnetic field that attracts and releases the steel tines of the tuning fork several hundred times a second, causing it to self-oscillate (and make sound!).
hey dsumner, how did your project turn out? do you have more documentation ? Also the wooden case looks really nice! Not like this old Helmholtz machine thingy. I am super curious because I am planning to build something related to this, also using vibrating tuning forks. I am wondering how much energy do the forks need to create a sound. Obviously I can not power this with my Arduino....

Looking forward to hear from you!
