Recently I received a set of motherboard, CPU, memory and cooler to upgrade my PC. But the cooler has only 3 pin connector and does not slow down spinning rate. The motherboard has 4 pin connectors. So I decided to make some adapter. It works pretty well with my Huanan x79 board. I turned on smartfan feature in BIOS and slightly tuned it. So now the fan has about 500 rpm in idle state and 1500 rpm when CPU is fully loaded.
