Here are some new build videos (in 2 parts as YouTube only allow a max video length of 15min. This is the new hybrid version made from laser cut 3mm ply, aluminium extrusions and 3D printed parts. The version shown here is the basic one without the crank module.

To avoid ending up for example being good at software but useless at hardware and other skills, I tend to learn how to do most things to a basic standard using fastest dirtiest way possible, just enough to get the job done. Therefore, although I should really dedicate time to learning CAD in say Fusion 360 I actually use Google Sketchup which has a very fast learning curve with online videos. I use an older version (8) with a plugin that allows you to export your work as .stl and .dxf files. This is enough for me to design in 3D for my own printers and also create dxf files to send to laser cutting company. This approach, which might upset purists, allows me to know enough about metalwork, electronics, coding, CAD, 3D printing and indeed music theory, to tackle a project such as this.
