I recently bought a small modeling iron for covering my R/C modelplanes with iron-sheet. When I checked the temperature of the iron using the original temperature control I became aware that the temperature of the iron was not constant but in a range of about 30 °C which is to me not satisfacory.I opened the iron and found a very primitive temperature control using only a bimetallic switch. So I decided to build a small electronic circuit for exact temperature control.I found a suitable control circuit on http://www.mikrocontroller.net (a german forum for electronics). What needs to be done is designing the circuit in EAGLE-CAD, create a housing with a 3D-CAD printing it and adding it to the iron.Soon there will be pictures of all my work.
I had a nice time calculating resistor values for the voltage dividers used to switch the heating via the OpAmp (the good old workhorse, a historic LM741 ;-) )
