This is a free design for a 16 colour 80x30 character terminal with a 640x480 VGA output and a PS2 keyboard input. The serial connection supports ANSI escape sequences to do everything from clearing the screen to defining custom characters.Almost everything is made from TTL chips in DIP packages which can be made on breadboard (no surface mount devices). In practice I used the modern equivalent of TTL which is 74HC parts and some 74AC which are faster. Of course the frame store is made from static RAM chips. The serial interface and driving the display and keyboard is done with a PIC.Full schematics, firmware and design details can be found at: http://debuginnovations.com/TTL_Terminal
