I bought a new computer case, and wanted to keep using two 3.5" Drive Bay USB Hubs that it didn't have slots for.
I went a bit over-the-top by putting the hubs on the side of the case and making them spring-loaded/latching. This took advantage of the side-loading drive bays by making a cutout in the side panel.
Ergonomically, it's actually not great. When plugging something into the side of your case, your hand will block your view. The front and top of the case end up being better for ports, letting you see what you're plugging into.
