Ten years ago it was impossible to recycle laptop displays. Now, thanks to some entrepreneurial folks in China, I can re-use the 15" touchscreen off my old ASUS laptop.
This frame was printed on a Prusa MK3S + in sections and screwed together.
I made provision for standoffs for the display driver card as well as a generic mounting area for a Raspberry Pi or other boards.
The display can be used as an external monitor for any computer output, including VGA, DVI and HDMI, so it is not limited to the Pi. It takes a 12VDC wall wart for power.
The display driver card comes with the usual set of buttons you find on your standard monitor.
I'm very pleased with the result. It's very portable. The frame makes it easy to carry with one hand anywhere I want to put it. The feet with the wide stance allows me to put it down anywhere, and provides clearance beneath the display for drawings, candy bars, etc.
Don't throw that laptop away, man! Recycle!
