I have my best ideas outdoors, in high heat and bright sun.
Until now, that conflicted pretty heavily with my chosen career: programming. The screen glare and garbage battery life of a typical laptop limited my time outdoors.
Now that I'm working from home all the time, I figured it'd be nice to spend more time outdoors. I've had this build in mind for a while, and I finally pulled the trigger when my company said we'd be fully remote for a long while yet.
This build is pretty simple: high-end e-ink display with a custom 3d-printed VESA mount, a big battery, and a Raspberry Pi that I use to remote into my main computer to do my programming. All contained within a lap desk. I drilled a hole in the side for a flush-mount USB input.
The external inputs allow me to easily attach a portable solar panel to it, and it'll run all day!
