The PECS board, should support 16 buttons, so I used a matrix. For audio output I use a DF player mini with sd card. The sound files can be uploaded via the USB port. The whole thing is battery powered. 

Here is the first prototype. I decided to use an Arduino pro mini 8Mhz because it only needs 3.3V.
