I'm afraid I've been rather lazy about updating this project as it's moved on. 
Some changes I've made have been:

• I've taken a file to the gate and enlarged the opening so I can scan the entire frame without the edges being cropped out.
• I now have an old DSLR pointed directly at the film to take images, but my cardboard lens extension tube tends to sag during the capture, pulling the image out of focus.  I'm going to be replacing this with a 3D printed tube.
• The salvaged gears have worn themselves down.  I'm planning on rebuilding this in Lego.

Expect some updates next year as I get these modifications in place.

Finally, here's a scan I made on the original system using a camera phone and a paper screen.  It's home footage by an unknown filmmaker.  I would love to get the original scan back to them so, if you recognise yourself, do let me know!
