So, to come up with something a little different, I decided that my pumpkin would be a portable "Pepper's Ghost" and since I had a Rpi zero with aa adafruit screen hat just sitting around from a tiara I built for Defcon 25, (https://hackaday.io/project/21086-dc-25-tc-2) I didn't have to worry about trying to get any new parts. and I could import the mini CRT from the tiara and not have to design that part of the build.
So for only finding out about the contest with 7 days left, I think I did okay. If I had to do it again, I come up with a more cohesive design for the interior. But, Sid the sandwich Ghost was just too cute not to use. Also if any of you attempt this, a bigger bit of acrylic would be ideal, but it works.

almost there, got my Rpi zero running with gifs on the screen with a python script, and the glass in good spot. still TODO: better screen blocking and bigger gif with fewer frames
to test the pepper's ghost I added a LED to the bottom of the pumpkin, and then added the parts that would normally hold the Pi and screen
still waiting on a few things to print, but if I hold a bit of shiny plastic packaging, we can see the LED appears to be floating upright in the pumpkin
main shell completed, over 48 hours of print time so far. inside painted with matte black and outside given a little dry brushing
