Laser Cutting A Second Calendar
12/12/2016 at 07:34 • 0 commentsThis week I worked in Noisebridge, a makerspace in San Francisco. In this video I make a larger LED Matrix calendar and show how I dealt with the laser cutter's kerf. Enjoy!

Buttons to consider
12/07/2016 at 09:59 • 0 commentsI've been hunting for tall, white, capped buttons that are the right length to lay almost flush on the frame's border (easy enough to press, but hidden).
As of today these are the buttons I've found. Unfortunately none of them are long enough to get through the frame. I misunderstood the labelling, apparently the marketed button length is measured from the bottom of the base to the very top and not just the length of the cylinder.
I think if I glue the cap onto the 9.5mm button I will get what I'm looking for, or I can purchase buttons marketed as 15mm length since the button base is usually 3.5mm.

Circuit Demo - Daily Tracker
12/07/2016 at 09:16 • 0 commentsI spent the last weekend learning more C++ and writing code to mark a habit done for the day. I like to start with something simple and in this case that is clicking a button and seeing a light turn on until the end of the day when all of the lights turn off.
Then early in the week I got audio hardware working, which is extremely simple to do as it turns out.
Tonight I redid some weak wiring and put all the pieces I had together into one device.

Black Friday - Laser cutting the calendar!
11/30/2016 at 22:47 • 0 commentsLast week I finished modelling the calendar enclosure in Fusion 360 and then on Friday I laser cut acrylic from Tap Plastic at the TechShop.
The day was packed: Last minute touches to the model in the morning -> Blick in SF to order prints -> UPS Center in South SF to pick up (and return) Adafruit parts -> TAP Plastic in San Mateo to pick up acrylic -> Tech Shop in Redwood City to laser cut. Somehow I got all of this done in time for a 7pm showing of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

Picking up the frame and prints soon!
11/30/2016 at 22:20 • 0 commentsLast monday I ordered the frame and 4" prints from Blick on Market St in San Francisco. The frame is 23"x13"x2" made out of white painted wood. The mat board is white 4-ply with four 4"x4" picture windows and one 9"x4" LED calendar window, and the glass is a low glare museum glass! I'm very excited to pick it up.
