I just found this project because I did some searching because I was curious if it's feasable to build a selective soldering system with DIY methods. The pump itself is the most (only?) critical part.

According to the document linked to below, such a pump costs around EUR11000 and you need an inverter which also costs around EUR4000. For a DIY person this is simply prohibitively expensive, but a DIY person also does not have the same extreme reliability and longevity demands that are put upon high production volume equipment.

Hello Paulvdh,

Regarding the points you mentioned:

Price-wise, we have managed to bring down the cost of the complete soldering system to 4000 euros, and for the electromagnetic pump, the lower-end prices are now within 1000 euros in China.

While electromagnetic pumps may seem costly, they offer stable wave soldering and have a long lifespan. We have developed various specifications, including low-cost, high-temperature, and high-power electromagnetic pumps. In China, the cost of selecting a wave soldering equipment with an electromagnetic pump is now below 30000 euros.

Of course, for DIY projects, you can achieve even lower prices.
