HoverBoard Hack it Back ROBOT rover 2022hackadayprize

This project is submitted for

This project was created on 07/24/2022 and last updated 3 years ago.

Description

[EDIT] As the challenge is over, i will continue posting updates and logs on the original project page: https://hackaday.io/project/185426-not-so-small-rover

This is my attempt to the Hack it Back challenge, with my hoverboard based rover robot.

Hoverboard are here and accessible for years, with powerful motors, battery, controllers.
All the parts that are needed to build a real robot.

I decided to do that, and have fun with a custom and original robot design.
It's a big baby of 25kg, with a full aluminum frame, a spring suspension system and 4 motors wheels.

The remote controller is here: https://hackaday.io/project/185425-universal-robot-remote

My goal is to make a real autonomous rover, it could be a cheap solution for any kind of exploration, transportation, inspection.

Components

  • 2 × Old Hoverboard (for the wheels & batteries) (you can find broken one for around 20 buck on ebay)
  • 4 × 400x20x40 aluminium extrusion https://www.systeal.com/fr/profiles-aluminium-6-mm/1226-profile-aluminium-v-slot-20x40-fente-6-mm.html

This is honestly fantastic. Do you have any more info on your materials such as cost and where the metal was fabricated?  Will you make this opensourced?  This is one of the best projects I've seen!  Would love to see more in-depth of installation guide and such! Keep up the awesome work !

Thanks a lot ! I have updated the parts list, but it's not final for the moment.

The aluminum part come from https://www.john-steel.com
they cut what you want from dxf files.

At the moment I don't know if I will make it opensource, if it works well, I would like to find a way to sell kits or something. But before that, there is still a long way to go !
