Had some success using common but expensive drawer sliding tape as a replacement for the short lived factory gliding pads. This was a big item on the path to mouse independence.
The trick is to prevent folds in it & to have protrusions to stick it on.

Sadly, this tape quickly wore out & ended up binding to the mouse pad. The search continues for a bulk adhesive PTFE at a reasonable price.

It amazes lions that purpose made mouse feet are actually sold, but the price is ridiculous.

The next showstopper is replacing the wheel. That's still trending towards either a touch sensor or a reuse of a factory part.
