As is, under Jammy Jellyfish Ubuntu, the touchpad will not allow dits and dahs to be input with the Tap to Click setting activated, as the pointerdown event and the pointerup event do not process through to apps until the pointerup event has been triggered. The overall system in place now, by convention, it seems, relating to clicking by a *brief* pointerdown period at the touchpad, does not truly report the timing of the actual touch to the touchpad, and only reports both the touchdown and the liftup off of the touchpad if a *brief* period only has been allowed to pass between the touchdown and the liftup.
It would also be helpful to give seamless [ only as sought out ] access to any added functionality of the touchpad under XWayland on a per app window basis. So, homebrew with the entire system in mind, from firware to linux driver to Wayland to the X Windowing system in Ubuntu, would be most considerate, it seems from here. So long as no toes go stepped on, and solutions to the stated issue can be found, it also seems packaging the solutions in modular format would be most practical, to allow those who may use other platforms than linux to still possibly make use of any alternative firmware brought about in this project.
A github repository has been stubbed out as noted for any who may be interested.
Thanks all around, and best wishes the same.
