Yes, I know, there is still no news about the case, so, at least something simple....
I try to put this soldering pen into transparent shrinkable tube (ø 10 mm) and seems with very good success, buttons are easy to press, so very good and cheap protection.

.... but one small fail, I forget to put down the protecting foil from the display! ,-D

is there any news on a case design yet ? I’ve seen a few but all seem to lack any sort of mechanical support to take strain off the 3.5mm connector.

This actually looks pretty good. I wonder if you could just cut some holes in a magic marker, for another improvised case.
