Strain wave or harmonic drive gears are cool. As a cheap analog for metal or flex filament splined cup, try using timing belts.

How about backdrivability for both drive, timing belts and cycloidal? Thanks

Hi @samuelpfchoi , for some reason your comment didn't show up in my feed or emails. None of the strain wave gears are back-driveable. The non-belt hypocycloidal gear was easily back-driveable (11:1 ratio) and the belt version was "slightly" back-driveable but is a 69 or 70:1 ratio.

Hi @Simon Merrett , Thanks, I am really interested the non-belt hypocycloidal gear, its design is very compact. The back-driveability, for me, is very important factor, Thank a lot of your answer, I think I will make one too for my experiment.
