Materials Used
Physical Structure
1. Plexiglass Discs:
- Thickness: 5 cm
- Diameter:
- Disc 1: 30 cm
- Disc 2: 29 cm
- Disc 3: 24 cm
- Disc 4: 22 cm
- Cutting Method: Used a laser cutter for optimal precision.
2. Metal Rod:
- Used to join the discs together and maintain the structure.
3. Yarn:
- Wrapped around the rod and discs to prevent the cat from getting hurt and to provide a scratching surface.
4. Soft Fabric:
- Used to cover the top disc to provide a consistent texture.
Electronic Components
1. Tilt Sensor:
- Cylinder containing a ball that emits a signal when the ball touches the wall.
2. Colored LEDs:
- Used to create light effects when the tilt sensor is activated
3. Resistors:
- Integrated into the circuit to limit the current.
4. Battery:
- Power source for the ball's electronic circuit.
5. Buzzer:
- Emits a sound when the infrared sensor detects movement.
6. Infrared Sensor:
- Detects the cat's movements.
7. Arduino Board:
- Controls the buzzer and manages signals from the infrared sensor
8. Camouflage Box:
- Hides the Arduino board with a hole for the infrared sensor.
Design and Assembly
Disc Structure
1. Cutting the Discs:
- Cut the plexiglass discs to the specified diameters using a laser cutter.
2. Assembling the Discs:
- Insert the metal rod through the center of the discs.
- Stack the discs evenly spaced.
3. Securing the Rod:
- The rod runs through all the discs and is firmly fixed to the top and bottom discs to stabilize the structure.
4. Wrapping the Yarn:
- Wrap the yarn around the rod and discs to make them safe and appealing for the cat.
5. Covering the Top Disc :
- Cover the top disc with soft fabric for a smooth texture.

Assembling the Light-Up Ball
1. Electronic Circuit:
- Connect the LED, resistor, and tilt sensor in series.
- Embed the circuit in a transparent ball.
2. Attaching the Ball:
- Attach the ball with yarn and hang it on the tree.
Detection and Sound System
1. Infrared Sensor and Buzzer:
- Connect the infrared sensor to the Arduino board.
- Program the Arduino board to activate the buzzer when movement is detected.
2. Integration into the Tree:
- Hide the Arduino board in a camouflage box under the tree.
- Make a hole so only the infrared sensor is visible.
3. Programming the Arduino:
- Load simple code to detect movement and activate the buzzer.
