I built a working dive SONAR using Open Echo.

This lets you "see" in water with low visibility and has a range of at least 25m. (couldn't test further)

I is CNC machined from a big block of PE, runs on a raspberryPi, 7" screen and the All-In-One development hardware of Open Echo.
