I was wrong about the Spadefoot tadpoles perishing in the pond. Today, I rescued 10 Spadefoot and 5 Narrowmouth tadpoles. When I tried yesterday, there was a bit more water, so the best I've figured why I didn't catch any Spadefoots yesterday is that they're better swimmers and were able to better evade my attempts to catch them. With less water today, they weren't able to easily swim away.
An interesting note is that the late addition Spadefoots are a bit more advanced than the other class members, as they're substantially larger and some even are developing rear legs. Ironically, the latecomer Spadefoots will likely be our first graduate for this class.
I've come up with three group names. I've named the group in the jar where most of the early class members were originally in "The Originals." I've named the group with the two Spadefoots and the one Narrowouth "Three's a crowd." I've named the group that's composed of late class additions that I've put into the green pan "the pond."
