Small summary of the plant tower experiment in 2025:
- The 3 i made indoors, with a LOT of LED panels, it did not succeed, no matter the substrate, oxygenation, or water pump I tried. - The only one i put outdoors, no matter the substrate, oxygenation, or water pump, it did great.
A bit sad for an “indoor grow” experiment, but it turns out natural light is mostly the only thing that matters x)
I have selected two new buckets that are inexpensive to buy pre-made and much larger than my old ones. I will design the 3D model around these two sizes.
I made a kind of shelf out of old wood. The new plant tower will go here instead of hanging from the ceiling like the old one. It will be four separate towers.
I’m harvesting what I can, because despite my efforts (testing different substrates, oxygenating the water, and reducing the number of watering cycles per day), I can’t get rid of the root rot problem.
I believe the issue lies in the horizontal design, which causes water to stagnate. I’m going to completely dismantle this setup and try a new approach using vertical towers.
Initially, I only planned to have a pump connected to a Wi-Fi outlet for this setup.
Over time, though, I’ve added two USB UV LEDs, a second pump for brassing, and, most recently, an oxygenator. As a result, the wiring has become quite messy :
It’s time to upgrade this, with a 4-relay Wi-Fi board and some 3D-printed casings !
