Oxygen and root moisture Issues

A project log for Hydroponic garden for the workshop

There’s a big unused window in my workshop and have wanted to try hydroponic culture for a long time. So here’s my attempt!

I have a moisture problem. The roots that are completely submerged are dying.
The plants still look okay, but I think this will become a problem in the future.

I have read that this could be due to root asphyxiation if the water is not sufficiently oxygenated.
I will install this aquarium oxygenator in the water tank to try to fix it.

Are you doing a continuous cycle where the water pump runs continuously, or a drain and fill cycle where the pump runs and then stops to let the system sit and partially drain between cycles? If the pump is running continuously that can cause some root issues, another variable to play with if the air stones don't solve it.

Right now, I mostly run a continuous cycle (only stopping the pump for one hour every night). But you're right, i hadn’t thought about trying longer pauses, like 12 hours on and 12 hours off. Thanks for the advice, I’ll give it a try!
