On the Embedded World Conference 2025 in Nuremberg I visited the booth from Distributor
Würth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG. One of the presented product portfolios sparked my interest with respect of this project: Quartz and Oscillators from IQD - a sub company of the Würth Elektronik group.
- IQD is since 2017 a 100% doughter of Würth Elektronik Gruppe and has over 50 years experience in the area of frequency products
- Their web site is: Web Site of IQD Frequency Products
- They have a great selection guide that offers a comprehensive product overview:
IQD Selection Guide
- Many parts are directly available from their stock in GB.
After an interesting conversation with one of the sales men he offered me to sponsor free samples of Quartz oscillators. I opted for a 64 MHz Quartz oscillator because that speed seems to be yet within reach with my a bit retro-fashioned TTL-Counter setup. Of course I would have to replace some chips with Fast Logic series especially for the counters and trigger logic.
And after a week or so a parcel arrived with 5 LFSPXO009615 Oscillators.
Now this tiny thingy is a 2.5V device and I had to build a quick and dirty level shifter with a transistor.
And actually it worked! With this little quartz the counter can now resolve 15.6ns ( 1/64 us).
This brings a theoretical measurement resolution of 50 um. Actually the measurements are still a bit noisy so this cannot be fully exploited yet.
Thanks to IQD and Würth Elektronik for showing interest in my project and sending me free oscillator samples!
