African talking drums were the first ever form of wireless communication, an exemplification of how complex and advanced African society was pre-colonization , despite claims to the contrary. We built an African talking drum, established a lexicon system for it, then developed a translation program in TensorFlow. A simple LSTM RNN is used to convert drum audio into pitch units. Then a Seq2Seq model is used to turn those units into English based upon the lexicon. A simple python program is also there to turn pitch units into English based on Morse Code.
