With Aliens Earth happening, I decided it was time to build a fully working M314 Motion Tracker.
I've always loved the Aliens films and franchise, and this has been something I've wanted to build for over 10 years.
Unlike other replicas, this one not only makes the sounds and has a display, but it **actually tracks motion** up to about 15 meters (although the display really only shows about 10m)
Originally this was planned to be a single video, but at 17 minutes long I split it up.
This is the first part, which includes some background into radar modules and how they work, raspberry pi, a little bit of python and getting the LCD panel working along with the sound generated.
At the end theres still loads to do!
And that leads us onto the second video. In this video we take a good look at the software, increasing the detection range and field of view, and then finally rejecting hand motion so it works whilst you're holding it.
I also included a fun graph showing what type of walls it could detect motion through which ones it couldn't. By the end of the video I had reliable detection upto around 11 meters. Enough for this prop toy anyway.
That leads us onto the third and final video in the series.
This video discusses how to physically assemble everything, including required PCBs, and 3D printing, as well as a few other parts, such as power! Its got a suprise ending too.. so make sure you watch until the end....
Now whilst building this I had several requests about building your own, and whilst its not a cheap project to build, I decided to share everything with everyone. So I created a website with a complete build guide along with everything you need to get this running as well as I have.
I hope that with other people building this the source code will also get updated by the community with new features and make better sensitivity, Time will tell I
