I’m working on an electro-mechanical project to automate the sorting and organization of through-hole resistors, a common challenge for electronics hobbyists after prototyping projects. The goal is to design a resistor sorting machine that automates the process, with the critical component being a singulator dispenser that reliably dispenses one resistor at a time. After researching online, I couldn’t find any existing solutions for a resistor sorting machine, so I’m exploring building my own. The current compromise is manually straightening resistor leads, but the rest of the process will be automated. The most critical and challenging part of the design is the singulator mechanism, which must consistently dispense a single resistor. If this component fails, the entire project will not succeed. I’ve included some conceptual sketches.
