Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs) are the unsung heroes of the drone and RC world, often shrouded in proprietary firmware and closed hardware designs. [Ronan Mingon] is looking to change that with the WCH-45A-ESC, a fully open-hardware project capable of pushing 45A continuous current, built around the WCH CH32M007 RISC-V microcontroller.
On the power side, the design does not skimp. To handle the thermal demands of 45A without massive heatsinks, the board utilizes Alpha & Omega AON6500 N-Channel MOSFETs. With an ultra-low on-resistance of around 1.0 mΩ and a DFN5x6 package.
