The Crystal Feather is my attempt to make an Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) development board that is actually obtainable AND useful for students and hackers. There are many like it, but this one is mine. Based on the Lattice Crosslink FPGA.
The Crystal Feather strives to be the perfect entry level FPGA board by prioritizing the following:
- Affordability
- Freely available, user friendly toolchain
- Useful number of Logic Elements / LUTs (> 5k)
- Familiar, breadboard friendly formfactor.
Existing solutions meet some, but not all, of these criteria.
Some key features of the Crystal board include:
- A fully compliant Adafruit Feather form factor
- 17-40k LEs (LUTs)
- $50 price point (hopefully cheaper in quantity)
- 3x Analog inputs(!), 4x LEDs, 6x Buttons, 1x PMOD
- LiPo Charger
- Drag and drop USB Bootloader and Serial Port.
- Hand solderable (No BGAs!).
Made possible by PCBWay and my own frustration with the status quo.
