The two machine lines
Norsk Data built two families of machines, and this project follows both. Dates are from the company's own history as kept on sintran.com.
- The 16-bit line: NORD-1 (first deliveries 1968, virtual memory on a 16-bit mini), NORD-10 (1973), ND-100 (1979), ND-110, ND-120 CX CPU (1988). The ND-100 and ND-120 are the machines rebuilt here, in C#, in C, in microcode and in Verilog.
- The 32-bit line: NORD-5 (1972, which Norsk Data called the world's first 32-bit supermini), NORD-50 (1975), ND-500 (1981), ND-570/CX (1983), ND-5000 "Samson" (1987), ND-5850 "Rallar" (1990). The ND-500 and ND-5000 are rebuilt here as CPU emulators written from the manuals.
The two lines were sold together: the ND-100 owns the terminals, the files and the operating system, and the 32-bit CPU sits beside it and runs the big programs out of shared memory.

Little hardware survived. I have restored two machines - an ND-100/Compact and a ND-100/Satellite - They generate so much noise and heat that they ar rarely powered on in my home office
