Download, install, and use
A project log for xtell-serial
Embedded development by AI, with you watching every byte.
Download: get the latest release (v0.1.1) from the GitHub Releases page, or clone the repo to run from source: https://github.com/xtell-cn/xtell-serial
Run from source (Windows, Python):
pip install -r requirements.txt
python xtell_serial.py
Or build executables (Windows):
pip install pyinstaller
build_exe.bat
This produces dist\xtell-serial.exe (the GUI) and dist\xtell-serial-mcp.exe (the MCP server).
Use:
1. Open xtell-serial, connect to your board's COM port, and watch the log.
2. Register xtell-serial-mcp.exe (not the GUI) as an MCP server in your AI client. For Claude Code: claude mcp add xtell-serial C:\path\to\xtell-serial-mcp.exe. For Claude Desktop, Cursor and others, add it to the client's MCP configuration (see mcp_config.example.json in the repo).
3. Ask your assistant, for example: "Connect to COM3 at 115200, send AT+GMR, and tell me what version the module reports." You see everything it reads and sends in the same window.
The full MCP setup guide and tool reference is in docs/MCP_SETUP.md in the repo.
Safety note: the assistant can send arbitrary bytes to whatever is on the port, so don't connect it to hardware where an unexpected command could cause harm. The local hub only accepts connections from 127.0.0.1.
