The change I made to the code last night worked. However, there were still some problems, and I discovered that there were definitely some loose connections on the board. Lots of very loose connections actually. So I cleared off my old breadboard (which has much better connectors) and I've started to rebuild my computer on it. Which is surprisingly difficult to do without forgetting where all the wires were previously, so I'm taking a lot of photos as I go.
