North of equator, West of Meridian... Right? Wrong!

So... we're filing for the FCC construction permit(different from the "you can use 100W on this radio band for free" application). We gave the FAA and the FCC the same information for our tower. The guy at the FCC thinks our tower is near Manila... Did we get our N/S and E/W confused? No... we've entered this lat/lon into every online map we could find... -_- pretty sure we're right. Called up the FAA, had them personally explain it to me. I'm positive that these are the correct coordinates.
I went to this site: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/AsrSearch/towairSearch.jsp
Here is how I filled out the form:
Here are my results:
DETERMINATION Results Structure does not require registration. There are no airports within 8 kilometers (5 miles) of the coordinates you provided. We don't need no stinkin' badges.
08/27/2015 at 20:27 • 0 commentsNov 27, 2013 -- Spreadsheet made
We first started off thinking "Let's pay the $280 and get a basic music license with ASCAP." But where's the weird in that? I mean, where is the uniqueness? We're not pushing any lines and we're not doing anything interesting by just making a gd radio station!
What if we use nothing by Creative Commons and Author's Express Permission?! That would be interesting. We're talking more with people like MC Frontalot, Stankdawg, and the likes. Cpt. Hook(yes, the old skool phreak) is hitting up Dr. Demento and the nerdcore homies. It's official.. We've made a spreadsheet:

Transmitter Tribulations
08/27/2015 at 20:04 • 0 commentsNov 21, 2013
So I thought that we might be able to use our local College's transmitter to get up and running. Things were looking really good until I realized that KNEH(a local catholic radio station) had a contract to purchase the tower space and the transmission equipment. Well... that only took 8 emails to find out....

MEH -- Live from the Roof of the US Bank!

We also need to decide how to put the tower up. We're on the top floor the US Bank(for irony bonus). It's one of the taller buildings in town... though the building itself is kinda in a pit. We think we could probably strap the tower to the top of this building:
I'm hoping I could bracket it to that little roof house. We might need to bolt it to the roof of the little elevator room. This is what the inside looks like:
Hmm... I don't want to put a hole in their nice membrane roof... It's all warrantied and shit... sounds pricey. Let's go with a bracket.

We have 107.9 approved by the FCC!
08/27/2015 at 19:26 • 0 commentsOct 1, 2013
We handed in our radio proposal to the FCC at the last minute(literally). We ended up getting approved to use 107.9FM! It's the last channel on the radio so we're naming the station "107.9 FM -- End of the Dial -- Hacker Radio!" We'll use this to advertise all sorts of tech and DIY-related material. We've been in contact with Hacker Public Radio. We hope to be able to air their content!
You can check our status here:
