This project page describes the technical design and reasoning for implementation of a wireless system that includes transceiver points and a cluster of networked stage props that display complex lighting patterns.
Background
In a theater, there are several reasons that new artistic technical props fails to achieve their desired affect. The following issues tend to plague such devices:
- Radio-Frequency interference
- servicing by non-technical people
- synchronization schemes can be difficult to achieve
- limited human communications
- extremely time-sensitive environment (Show must go on!)
Basic system view is shown below. A single computer off stage will synchronize the system time and send the time stamp outward to the redundancy transponders. The time stamp information is distributed to each tube in the system on stage.
