Using a device that can measure the power of a mains powered device. Such as PlugWise or Sonoff plug. It is possible to detect different states of a washing machine. My primary use case was to send me a push notification when the washing machine is finished. I currently have this working by using OpenHab and a PlugWise plug. Messages can easily send to the OpenHab App itself, Telegram or Notify My Android.
