A coworker of mine needed a device to keep heron away from his koi pond. He wanted a something that was standalone, used rechargeable batteries, and utilized a combination of a strobe light and squirt gun that were motion triggered to scare the heron away. Thus, Project Heron was born.
I delivered a completed device, that worked relatively well but had a few issues. In the spring of 2014 I did an overhaul of the original device to improve reliability. It has transitioned to an ongoing project as things break or need improving. I have also begun to optimize the design to reduce material cost and fabrication time for version 2.
