The computer was assembled with the following parts in the following order:
- Motherboard
- Microprocessor (placed into motherboard)
- Microprocessor fan (placed onto motherboard)
- RAM (inserted in DDR slots)
- Hard Disk Drive (connected to SATA port of motherboard)
- Power Supply (powers motherboard, microprocessor, and hard disk drive)
- Case (placed components inside & connected reset button & power button to motherboard)
Debian was the selected operating system for the computer. It was installed with the following procedure:
- Load Debian Network Installer onto a USB drive
- Make drive bootable with ISO by formatting with Rufus
- Connect monitor, keyboard, ethernet, and USB drive
- Turning on the computer
- Boots from USB drive rather than the hard disk drive
- Install Debian with the installer
- Partition hard disk drive
- Set language and time zone
- Download binaries to hard disk drive
- Excluded the graphical user interface
- Included the SSH server
- Create users and passwords
- Turn off computer
- Remove monitor, keyboard, and USB drive
- Turn on computer
The end result is a Debian workstation that can be accessed via SSH
