I accept your choice not to support in-app chats anymore.
What I am upset about is that your notice did not warn that existing messages would become inaccessible, nor include a warning to grab any conversations before they did so.
I put a lot of time and effort into my project work, and now I am nervous that it could all vanish if someone decides to. Do we have any legal agreements not to wipe our work?
I understand you have made the choice to offload in-app chat to Discord. Not only are my existing conversations now inaccessible, but Discord are a dreadful choice for all the reasons explained here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGP9Nw6uwHY&t=347s
To set up an account, they want an enormous amount of personal details. When (not if!) they get hacked, hackers will then be able to use those details to prove they are me or any other Discord user. Nobody with any security concerns should use Discord, or tell people to use it.
I am having the same issue I cannot get to "my messages" I keep getting a redirect to Discord????
Why is My Messages redirecting to Discord? What is the plan?
Search isn't working for me at all. Zero results no matter what search term I use.
There's no report button for spam in the messages. At least not one that's easy to find
Which messages? The private messages? You can block the sender. For comments you can report the commenter.
Haz my system been hacked? I woke to see that the private messages are no longer existent! It forwards to discord, where I don't have an accout. Have I lost years' of conversations and friend-connections?
the Search-function seems to be down. Only gives me zero hits even on words like arduino and raspberry
As a newcomer I can see no easy way to return to Liked projects at a later date. How to best do this?
Go to your own profile and click on the Following link. That will take you to a list of projects liked and followed.
Do you mean under my Profile picture? I don't see any Following link there.
NVM, I had to click the down arrow to see it. It wasn't visible in the dropdown list. Thanks.
No your profile page that you get when you click on your avatar. Or My profile in the mobile version.
Yep, clicking the down arrow does the same as the profile pic. I initially thought the drop down list you got hovering over the profile pic was all the options available. Thanks for your help.
Editing the instruction steps doesn't cause them to be shown on the front page, despite the checkbox set to allow this.
And still getting 500 Lost Spaceman at random on any page. Clicking on refresh repeatedly will cause it to display eventually. Looks like front-end throttling of page requests.
The two Featured Projects on your home page were added December 2025 and have not been updated in 5 months. Stale. Stale. Stale.
Hi Hackaday.io team,
Not sure why copy and pasting pictures from "snipping tool" or from the Explorer do not work anymore.
It just shows a striped blue bar (upload progress), and then no picture.
Manually include the "image" from the toolbar works, but not the copy and paste pictures directly into the writing area.
I have experienced this. Often the best result is to save images seperately
The feature to add people to a project does not work. I've tried both in the left column on the main project page and in the edit project details page.
The Projects You May Like column needs a better curation algorithm. Currently it seems to pick projects with high number of visits which doesn't always correlate with relevance. Today a project for turning an oscilloscope into a CP/M machine popped up. It hasn't been updated for 7 years and doesn't seem to have achieved its goals.
I would argue that Featured Projects suffers from the same flaw. Sure the projects with the most views makes sense, but the home page gets stale showing the same two projects for months on end. A better approach might be to show the two projects with the most views over the past week. Or better yet have the editors vote every week or so (or take turns picking for variety).
Yeah same goes for People You May Like. The front page is getting boring.
Drop in the route here whenever you find that issue again - its tough to guess the scenario, for more context you can - send me the screenshot of the inspect (right click-> inspect button) -> console tab.
Nothing special, just the entry page for the global feed: https://hackaday.io/feed and the 500 page is the generic one, saying Something went wrong but we're working on it. Refreshing usually resolves it within a few attempts. It also happens sometimes when advancing to the next page of the feed. Sounds like some request throttling at the front end.
I'm adding a new project, but when I try to add a picture I always get the error message that only JPG/PNG and TIFF files of less than 5MB are accepted.
Well, I tried a 200kB JPG to start with, tried all 3 file formats, capitalized the extensions and tried 3 different browsers all to no avail....
What am I doing wrong???
I saw errors with uploading pictures were also mentioned (below) in December 2025
I am unable to replicate this scenario, can you please dm me the screenshot of the error?
I got the idea that the hackaday site/cdn-server or whatever is blocking certain domains. I noticed Portugal has a bad reputation, changing my VPN to another country seemed to resolve the issue.
Besides the fact that such generalisations don't work, it is very misleading to give an error about a faulty file-type or size.
Your webserver is throwing an ERR_HTTP2_SERVER_REFUSED_STREAM when trying to browse /project/... (and probably other pages) while not being logged in. Shouldn't this be a clean redirect to the login page?
Can you send a proper route for which you get an error? Ill try to simulate i
That day it was any path under /project/ that failed in incognito. Seems all fixed by now 😊
Sometimes when I post a comment to somebody's profile and it's long, it gets truncated on the front page with a link "more". Sometimes but not always this link is faulty and results in Page Not Found, Lost Spaceman.
Thanks for bringing up this issue.
This issue is now fixed and deployed.
Hey everyone,
We recently identified and fixed a couple of issues related to:
1. Emails not being delivered for certain actions
2. View counts not updating correctly
Both have now been resolved.
If you notice anything else or have any feedback, please let us know.
Happy hacking!

There's been some history of images not loading. Even when eventually successful, lazy-loaded images may appear after a reader has already scrolled past where they aren't.
As it is now, there is no indication that anything is missing from where an image hasn't loaded yet.
Request: please add some kind of visible place-holder where an image hasn't loaded yet, preferably to include the image "title" and/or "alt" text.
For example: the editor (only) shows a broken image icon and the image "alt" text where an image source doesn't resolve.
Stretch: the editor invites entry of an image "title" then populates both the title and alt tags with that text. Not terrible, but not always ideal. How about a checkbox to toggle optional entry of a different alt text?
