Yeah, the discussion of creating a log-TOC has come up a few times, usually with the conclusion that "you can add your own in the description" but that seems to usually end up happening once, and never gets updated, in my case anyhow ;)
Yes, we can add, but size of description is strictly limited (1000 characters) and size of visible part of details is limited too - from some point it started showing ... and you need to go to "See all details" in order to see full list
OK - I exceeded size of the details section and there is nothing to remove - so I "simulated" logs section on the left by adding every log as a link into external links section of the project:
https://hackaday.io/project/9795-nedonand-homebrew-computer
I believe that hackaday.io website could have logic to generate similar lists automatically - it should not be difficult to write...
The possibility of a drop down menu list of the logs entries when you hover the mouse over 'log' on the menu bar would be so cool.
I write my listings myself and it's slow and error-prone. This made me discover weird behaviours of the online editor by the way.
K.C. Lee's drop-down menu is a Brilliant Idea.
I think it's better too see full list all the time - not hidden under drop-down control - left side of the page is mostly blank anyway...
Right.
The "trick" is that I use some special formatting that can be parsed by sed and provide a list of log pages for my dump script #HackaDump
When the auto-list feature is done, I'll have to update my script once and for all, instead of keeping my projects manually updated...
Please HaD team, please make this feature at last :-)
Reply-level's not deep enough... Clever solution using the external-links section. Plausibly even automatable via curl, hmm...
Something to think about for #HackaDump ... But then, it could become a mess when actual external links are used.
I recently started to use the draft feature in the project logs. I realized that the project log date will be the date when it is first created and not when published. When I publish it, it will be showing up in the feed days earlier, means if somebody want to follow it probably will miss it.
Can you please change it somehow?
Recently my feed started showing items from the "Stack", there used to be an option to disable that....Has it moved or gone away? I'd like to not see anything from there in my feed if possible..
I didn't get the "why" answered, but they removed the settings for the feed some weeks ago.
That's unfortunate.. The feed was useful before it started getting flooded...
I'm back to injected Javascript to hide stuff I don't want to see...
Are there any easy to delete "code snippet" blocks once you put it in? They are also kind of hard to delete if they happens to be at the very end of a log.
Hi K.C.! You can go to edit project and do it, does this not work?
Depending on where I do the delete, the code snippet box stays, but the text below it flows into the box. If the box is the vary last element, then you can't select past it to delete it.
I actually had to copy/paste and discard the changes a few times because of that. Would be nice to have a close or delete button on it.
Bullet points are an excellent tool to convey information fast in the projects logs.
In the project log editor they have different shapes depending on the indentation level (disc, square, circle) and it is very readable, on the actual log page they have all circles and margin (spacing) is inconsistent with the rest of the text... difficult to read and ugly.
Please change the bullet types depending on the level indentation, so that they appear in the same way that in the log editor.
To remove the inconsistent margin in these bullet lists edit the /css/sass/structure/_normalize.scss file, line 291 and remove "margin: 1em 0;".
I see you've made some changes on the single log page, so now the differently indented bullet points are distinguishable, however you forgot to make them on the project page as well... they're still the same.
Also the spacing between the list elements makes it inconsistent with the rest of the text, look at this ugly thing: https://hackaday.io/project/10293-raspberry-pi-3-based-workstation/log/33893-milestone-1-part-1-the-functions
Thanks solenoid, will take a closer look at list formatting.
I'll give an example I'd expect to see:
This is what it looks in the editor and what I expect everywhere else:
This is what I see on the individual project log page:
This is what I expect to see on the individual project log page:
This is what I see on the project page (notice same bullet types):
This is what I expect to see on the project page:
The vertical spacing at 3 levels deep makes the lists even more ugly.
My project was listed on the front page, but the lowercase Mu character (μ) was uppercased to an M!

The location field in the user profile does not handle accented characters. I live in Linköping, Sweden, but my profile page displays the "ö" garbled: https://hackaday.io/raek
Hackaday prize is now 2016. We are from Myanmar (Yes, a green land opened it's door recently). We are not eligible yet. "The Contest is not open to residents of Quebec, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar (formerly Burma), North Korea, Sudan, Syria, or any ...". Why we are not in a part of this open community? Myanmar is running on our own path to democracy. Everybody know it and you still considering us like North Korea, Sudan, Syria!!! I strongly requested for eligibility again. Dear teams, please find a way for us.
It is your country's rules and we sincerely hope that next year you can join us. You can still put up a project and be a part of the community. We love having you here.
Hi. I am so excited to have the opportunity to enter my submission, thank you! I've had a few people report "Liking" my project, iCaries, but it is not showing up. One did write a nice comment, and it shows, but not the "Like". Today, two of the "Likes" are missing, but I received their email confirmations, skull +1, for each yesterday. Just wondered if there is a way to have someone look into that for me. I'm happy to forward the confirmation emails. Thank you again!
hi. list of people who liked iCaries can be seen here https://hackaday.io/hackers/all/project/10169/likers please let me know if you got email notification from someone who's not on the list. you can send me private message if easier. thank you!
Yes, I got two email notifications from two who are not on my list. I'll send you a private message. Thank you for such a quick reply, impressive!
Hi Ivan, just forwarded two email notifications from two people not on the list.
Would be nice to be able to enter some general text in the "File Area" section for a project.
e.g. license, a short description of what the files are for.
You can write a description for each file independently. But your idea is noted, thanks!
Please add the 2016HACKADAYPRIZE tag in the "Browse by Tag:" drop down menu from page https://hackaday.io/projects
Is there any other way to sort only the 2016 Prize entries?
link to all official entries https://hackaday.io/submissions/prize2016/list. the link is under 'more' menu
I need to be able to sort by date the 2016 Prize projects only. Or by skulls, or other criteria, like in the page for https://hackaday.io/projects
Still no ETA on the "cancel project collaborator invitations when they have not yet responded"?
Also, what's with the "likes", put back "skulls" and demote the person who had this idea.
When loading hacker channel chat, my browser freezes, CPU load on my quad core i5 jumps to 100% and stays there for something like 5-10s, on the other computer with slower dual core CPU it is even worse, something like 15-20s freeze. Firefox often throws warning of unresponsive script. It works this way from the beginning (I'm here for a few weeks).
Is it feature or bug? From my layman's point of view the chat is simple - just window with few lines of messages. I know it i more complicated under the hood, but experience with other chat engines - happily running on old raspberry pi B (not +, not 2 nor 3 version) - is more smooth with comparable usability.
Seems like other people noticed that too, like comments in here https://hackaday.io/project/7844-robotics-chat
My email client is blocking your outsources newsletter about the hackaday prize as a suspected fishing attempt.
This is because you have links *written* as hackaday.io/prize but the actual anchors link to the outsourced email marketing platform.
The above is the desired behavior for my email security and I will not be changing it to accommodate hackadays flaunt aberration of established and expected internet principles.
I like hackaday and I like your newsletters but I am not going to read through a dozen or more phishing attempts per day just so that I can read your one newsletter.
If you do the same with other email from hackaday.io then they will be blocked as well and that will be the death knell for hackaday as far as I am concerned. Come to think of it, I haven't received and email from io for a while.
Sorry to sound so negative but that's just the way it is for me. I was a contributing member here before the constant changing of image aspect ratios exceeded my patience.
There are reasons for established standards and they wont change because *someone thinks it's a good idea to try something different*. The only thing you are achieving in this way by using your visitor base as a sounding board is to cause them frustration and irritation until they leave. Is it really worth that when the standards have already been established.
The aspect ratios here are still the worst case possible. They may look great as a collection but they are not conveying basic information (their primary purpose).
Why do I bother???
Bye.
Thanks, I'll bring this up with the newsletter staff. The html email URLs are modified for mailchimp analytics. I believe the plain text versions are not modified.
+1 Not really interested in my email address "outsourced" and "harvested" by a 3rd party company that I have no control. There might also be some local privacy laws in countries that prevents this.
I got my Power Glove project up (FINALLY), and I'm super excited to share it with the world! I seem to be at a loss though when it comes to adding more than 6 pictures to the gallery. I originally thought I was supposed to add them to the files section as they appeared in a gallery format at that time, but now they are just listed files and are separate from the actual gallery...
the 6 pics are for representing your project. All other pics in the galleries of other projects are pulled from the logs. So if you want to add pictures, add them in a log and they'll show up in the gallery :)
"Skull" was always the Hack A Day trademark.
I just LOVE publishing my projects here @ hackaday BUT adding images really lacks a important functionality:
Defining size by numbers while keeping the aspect ratio. I like my pictures to have all the same width throughout the text. Doing that by mouse is really annoying and cumbersome.
It would be great to be able to do that!
I like the idea - maybe something like a select box with percentage?
It is my experience that when you drag images into the editor they all have the same width which is the width of the editor but I assume you'd like them to be narrower which would probably look better in many cases.
Resizing images seems to have the effect that they are assigned a fixed size in pixels so they will look different on differently sized monitors which messes up the layout.
You could try resizing images by editing their html tags as suggested by @RoGeorge in #Hack the Hack A Day Editor; e.g. set the width to 75% and the height will scale according to the aspect ratio. I do this quite frequently to display two images side-by-side, an example for this is the last image in this log.
However, I agree that better image editing tools in the editor would be nice and it has been suggested multiple times in the comments here.
Thanks for the tip with the percentage! Thats quite useful and I'll try it! I know about the layout, but as the text/images are all inside of one "frame", one could "simply" add a "% of width" option to the Edit-option of images instead of a px-number.
@Jan Yeah, that's pretty much what I suggested some time ago; to scale the images in terms of percentage and not pixels but the devs are probably busy as it is.
I like the idea of adding these options to the edit-image-dialogue, maybe even further in the future options for cropping and rotating the image could be added there as well.
Haha, while we're on the subject of redactor... can we please have *strikethrough*?
my latest page has 2 likes but only one feed update for it.
might have something todo that I follow one of those persons and on not.
I don't think so. I saw the same problem (see below) with people I follow as well as people I don't follow.
I think it might have something to do with the email notification limit which it says is limited to one per hour.
Why in the name of all that's holy and much that isn't can't I change my profile image? I've tried multiple times two different images, one a JPG and the other a PNG. Both are under a meg and both seem to upload and display but when I save profile changes, the image reverts to the original.

Feature Request: Please, add automatic generation of the list of logs on the left of the project page (preferably in chronological order with dates) - this feature is really really really needed!!! Thanks!
