3. I came here because of a broken "check it out" link in an email I got for a comment on a project. Link looked like that http://hackaday.ioundefined/#j-discussion-7469 ... but then I noticed the curated lists :)

1. yay, curated lists :) this is awesome! This way some projects could get more attention. I think the drop down sorting menu from the other list views would be a nice add-on.

Themes that could make a good list too:
- UAVs/Drones/flying things
- health related stuff (blood stuff, urine stuff, heart stuff)
- home growing/gardening
- robots (or parts of them like arms)
- watches and clocks (nixie tubes, xkcd, bttf, servos)
- wearables/clothes
- space related stuff (satellites, telescopes, radios, dsky, space suit)
- SDR, ham radios..
- games, arcades, consoles
-...

2. The sorting of replies to comments seems weird, is this a bug or a feature (I'm asking seriously)?

4. I really like where this page is going, and I hope that networking with people will get easier and appears more often, once they see the similarities in their projects. With 2418 projects (more or less) it will be more and more difficult to pay attention to overlooked projects and the nth project about xy.

4. We have a few ideas for improved networking. Initially we are working on an improved experience for new members to suggest hackers and projects to follow. More to come.

Jasmine, I will follow your advice and use the project log and instructions more appropriately, but the way the logs are displayed doesn't work so well with a completed project. I would like to present my project step by step, and always have the first step showing on top , but it is sorted with the newest first , so my first entry will always be at the bottom. You can change the sorting when you are displaying all logs, but that's not the way a project will first be seen by others. This was kind of why I was using instructions instead of logs, because I can easily sort them myself. I also used a lot of different "steps" because of the formatting issues I wanted to keep steps short. I first wrote all that I wrote under project details , but then it wasn't the right place so I moved to instructions, copy pasting all I had written, but it seems that , under instructions at the very least, it doesn't like copy pasting at all. I was copying with 2 different windows, so the formatting should of stayed the same but it came out all weird , at least in the editor window. I also tried pasting inside Word , and the formatting was fine, including the bullet points and the embedded images. It could very be because instructions is narrower than project details.

Also , since I had no idea where I should upload my schematic, since there is a component section, but nothing for schematic / code, i decided to upload it to the project's pictures. Although the preview is upright, when you click on the actual picture, the schematic was rotated 90 degrees.

Yep, then the build instructions are the best thing to use. You can always put brief info in the build instructions and link to more info in the project logs. You can also make a link to the sorted view all page.

We may add a design docs section, but for the time being photos or in the project logs is best. I'm not sure why the schematic is rotated. We'll look into that one, as well as the formatting issues.

I'm running firefox 31 and there are a lot of formatting issues when creating instructions. For example bullet points are acting very weird, immediately as you enter bulletpoint mode it prints 2 lines, or they are spaced apart very wide making it look ugly. I used the "code" formatting to print code, but if I ever edit the instructions, my code is now on a single line and looks very bad. Also the width of the instructions window is too narrow. I know not everybody has a 2560 x 1600 screen .. but it should either scale or just be wider by default. I'd really like to add all the details I can about my project, but the formatting is driving me mad. I can't type the whole thing at once without ever editing it, and when I do edit it , all the formatting changes.

Also , I should be able to make projects but not publish them right away before they are the way I want to publish them. I was hoping to use this site as both a means to publish both also a means to keep track of my current projects without publishing them to everyone before I am ready to do so.

Looking forward to see improvements in the very near future.

Hello David Drolet, I'll let the devs know about the editing/formatting issues, and about the image re-size/enlarging.

I had a look at your Bluetooth Doorlock project. The build instructions seem to include information which might go well in project logs. It's up to you, but we intended the build instructions to be fairly concise steps for other members to be able to replicate your process, which is why not so much space has been allowed for them. Project Logs are more suited for updates and longer explanations regarding choices and techniques on your project as you go along.

It is unlikely we will add a drafts feature. We want to follow people's projects from conception and as they happen.

"updated" is getting a bit frustrating. I typically open these, reread, stare and am none the wiser for what has changed. A component? A spelling mistake? Something wiki like would be awesome, but I accept major changes to site code may not be feasible. If it's possible to put in a reason line the editor can fill in and would show up in follower's feeds, that would help a lot.

I tried extending my project description, transcribing several pages of information from a document I had in PDF. It looked great in the "Edit Description" site, but when I look at the project page, it just gets truncated. If there's a limit on the Project Description section, it'd be helpful to spell it out.

Hello J. Peterson, yep most of the long text sections are truncated at around 4000 chars. However it should automatically insert the read more tag. You can choose to add the read more tag at any point before it truncates.

Noticed replies to my comments are just sometimes labeled as "reply to *project or person* " Maybe because they did a regular post instead of a reply, regardless, This makes it impossible for people to use the site to network and get feedback because it creates noise and obfuscates the signal.

You won't be able to tailor what you see, but hopefully the changes we've made will make it more useful to you and everyone else. I'm experiencing an issue with my build logs.. It seems that it now automatically inserts a read more tag...the probelm is whatever image is just above that tag shows up with the broken image icon and the read now link isn't a line..it's just plain text that says read more.. If I click on the build log title to open the entirety, it seems fine and all images load.. Any idea?

I'm probably just experiencing something weird with Chrome, but for me none of the links in the top bar work. I'm using the Canary version of Chrome and tried running a vanilla copy. It still didn't work!

Btw I think being able to use Markdown for posts would be amazing. I use it for pretty much everything else!

It seems sometimes the 'view all details' button is missing, and the project details are simply cut-off. If you know the magic URL for all the details you can get to them.

Example (my project; thats how I found it)

http://hackaday.io/project/2056-Cat-644 :Under 'project details' the post is cut-off mid sentence at "The PS/2 protocol consists of 2 sign"

But the rest of the details do in fact exist: http://hackaday.io/post/5546/

This is a little frustrating because I do intend to enter the hackaday prize contest, but can't be sure that everything is actually visible!

Why don't you make a CRON(tab) to email a voting invitation to members so that the server load can be distributed over time or put the voting system on the main site/server or upgrade the server resources for the .io site.

imho the project selection system is still flawed. It should register that i did not select either project, either by refreshing or if need be a "neither" button. There's too many projects which i think do not deserve a vote but just keep coming back. I don't think i should be voting just to get rid of those projects.

I had an idea for your mail system. When you check every hour what has happened in the last and then send the mail as a report if something happened you could safe some mails and won't miss to update on occasions. Like a toilet in a shopping mall flushing itself every 15 minutes to safe water... only it knows someone was on it.

great stuff overall, but the login process needs some help. If I click into a project and I'm not logged in, I see the username & password fields (auto-filled in my case), and the 'become a member' button. Seems to me that would be a great place for the login button.
It happens again when you click the 'sign in/up to comment'. Autofilled user/pass with a signUP button. I want to sign in? It's an extra step, I click 'already a member' get the familiar dialog, log in, and then I'm brought to 'my feed', and have to navigate back to where I started.
I think the crux of the issue is that you're making it easier to sign up then to sign in. If I want to sign up, I only have to do that once. I'd rather see a 'sign up' or 'become a member' button that then takes me to page or pop-up where I enter credentials. Just my 2¢.

well, I hate to say it, but it's gotten even more confusing. There's still no way to sign in at the top of a project (though I can still sign up), and now when I go to the home page, I have three options. Sign in with Github, Sign in with Twitter, Sign UP with Email. So, there's actually no way to sign in from the main page if you've created a login via email?

We do have Sign In on every page, on the header. But I think since this is one click more, it seems like it's not a convenient process for you, right?

Just curious, doesn't the website remember you? Or are you logging off manually after each session? We are aiming to keep everyone logged in once they sign in, that's why Sign In is not as prominent as Sign Up.

In the near future, we'll allow existing users to connect their GitHub/Twitter accounts so they can sign in from the homepage (or everywhere you see the Github/Twitter buttons).

yup. My first step after hitting 'projects' is to sort by newest. If I've already done that in a given day, I then hit 'recently updated'. Most Skulled/Commented/Followed should be options but not defaults IMHO.

This is just a thought, when you click the Projects link it defaults to showing the most skulled projects resulting in the most skulled projects getting even more skulls and new possibly cooler projects not being showed to new viewers at all. How about making "latest projects" the default view when anyone clicks "Projects" on hackaday.io ?
