There is a bug !
Somehow I became logged here from my phone as another person! I had ability to change background, edit profile etc. Something is going on here..
How do we know it's really you reporting the issue?
(sorry. it's Friday night)
Anyways - I think it's serious when somebody may accidentally get logged as different user (do you use like CRC16 or something for authentication?) - to whom may I provide details about the incident? Like date and time of the incident, name of the other user etc...
Please ping me on PM with the details. We have identified the time window and made sure to verify data integrity & reset all the sessions right away, but any additional info might help stay on the safe side. Thanks!
Hey Shaos, thanks for reporting! We have rolled out a new caching layer last night that triggered this. We have immediately detected & patched everything up, but a few sessions got impacted in the time window before the rollback. The issue only got triggered under a specific session/browser combo, which is why it got missed in QA and was invisible for other users. Really sorry about this.
Seems like posts in the "Feed" for page 1 after "lukasz.iwaszkiewicz updated the project details to the project Micro robot wars." all have bold fonts on. Page 2 are not affected.
Chrome on win7 x64.
HI @K.C. Lee! Thanks for alerting us, we are working to resolve the issue.
Enter+Shift doesn't work in the chat for me.
OS X 10.11.6Chrome Version 55.0.2883.95 (64-bit)
The menu doesn't get a background color when I'm on the message page, but on other pages it works. (talking mobile and tablet sized here) - I tend to split the screen from time to time, that's when I notice the behaviour.
OS X 10.11.6Chrome Version 55.0.2883.95 (64-bit)
Hey @davedarko! Bug is confirmed. Thanks for the issue report.
still up for debugging? thought it was fixed, but I can see it again. Just making sure.
Love what you did with the place! I mean the range stuff. Awesome :)
I liked the range thing, too, but the behavior was a little counter-intuitive. I created a project last week, and it got a handful of likes in the first day or two. One of my old projects got a single like after that. One morning, the old project showed up first in the list, as the burst of likes on the new project crossed the week threshold. It seemed like an inversion to me.
I wonder if some kind of "decaying average" of likes would be a useful sorting - maybe weight the influence of each like with a decaying exponential function, so that a burst of likes doesn't fall off the radar as it crosses a week (or month) boundary.
My feed is broken. The global feed shows up fine, but my feed spins with the "shades of black" animation for a few seconds, then says "click here to load the feed." Clicking it does not load the feed :-(
Your message didn't show up on my feed, because it's down too......
crossing fingers !
Same here on:
OS X 10.11.6
Chrome Version 55.0.2883.95 (64-bit)
Could be related to the html inject hack by some joker that I have posted below which cause an empty feed page on chrome.
Take out your pitch forks!
Hey All, we remedied a bug affecting feed items. It should be back to normal as of yesterday. Please reply to this comment if you're still experiencing issues. Thanks!
FYI one of the recent feed page is blank. It could be this joker that injected RAW html code into the feed.
https://hackaday.io/hacker/191990
I recommend looking at the time stamp and see for yourself.
Lesson: Trust no one. Sanitize your inputs.
I am getting the "Details can't be blank" red bar *while* I am entering project log. May be the checking should be done *only* when I am saving the log?
Sometimes the feed does something funky with nesting... Every once in a while the items which should be "top-level" wind-up nested within a previous top-level item. Would seem like a minor annoyance...

Howdy @esot.eric! Thanks for letting us know! We'll make a ticket.
Can we have filters for my/global feed? Sometimes I want to see "what happening" outside my feed, so I click the global feed and it's totally polluted by "XXX updated their profile" logs.
Here's a weird one for you.
I was reading the .io site below (not one of mine) and noticed that character pairs "fi" were replaced by fl, which is a slightly boldened version of the "fl" ligature represented by the HTML character (ampersand)#xFB02(semicolon).
https://hackaday.io/project/8823-super-simple-muscle-emg-sensor
(For example, search his page for the string "of the muscle fibres. For very fine low force")
The ligatures appear in the flow of his text, I suspect he's not actually typing these every time he enters words beginning "fl". He's from England, so I don't expect that it's an unusual keyboard layout. The ligature is not a standard character on the UK or international keyboard layout (according to Wikipedia). Typing "flow" using the ligature would provoke a spell-check red underlining on my version of Chrome.
Something seems to be replacing the characters... is it the Hackaday.io system?
P.S. - This happens in both Chrome and FF, and comes up in "view->source", so it's not an aspect of the browser.
good catch, but it's seems that it's copied from somewhere, hackaday.io don't replace those characters. eg. "similar to the flow of electrical" text on the same page is not replaced.
A bug in Firefox Desktop and apparently also on Firefox Mobile:
In the chat, if you mention someone with @ and you choose the user by clicking on them in the list instead of pressing enter. All text typed after that mention still resides in the <a> element that gets created for the mention, which causes it to also get styled in gold. What should actually happen is that the focus of the cursor should go back to the parent <p> element so you don't continue to write in that <a> element.
Also there sometimes a weird bug that when I press backspace, my cursor gets moved to the beginning of the text box. I'm so far unable to reliably reproduce the issue. This happens also outside of the chat.
The backspace thing appears when writing project logs too. It happens all the time when I drag picture into log, start sentence under the picture, then correct word in the sentence using backspace, the cursor moves to beginning of the log. After starting new paragraph with Enter key, cursor is no longer jumping to beginning - unless I enter new picture.
Hi @Professor Fartsparkles bug is confirmed. Thanks for the feedback!
I'd like to have an site appearance setting to change theme. white lettering on black background is very hard for me to read. also. I'd like to have less photographs displayed for "projects" and "lists". scannable lists (mostly textual) are my preference. scrolling to locate is annoying for me. thanks!
Hey Eric - these are some good points. Adding to the queue. Thanks!
you have some bug with github authentification (gets into some infinite loop, need to manually back to the site)
Are you still seeing this issue? We're not able to reproduce this on our end. Thanks!
right now logged in correctly.. may be was something on github side.. sorry)
i'd like to see a featue where users can have their own lists of projects, even if it is to catogorize their liked/made projects. :)
I now have so many projects that I consider making yet another project to list and categorize mine... Not sure if it should be a project or if I should write a page...
Maybe profiles could have a "details" like projects do ?
Need something like a sub directory to organize things. :)
could I (/we) get a line-through style thingy for text so we can cross off stuff from lists and feel good about it? please? :) :) ;) :)
They disabled its removal from HTML-view... so you just click the HTML-view button, and add '<s>' and '</s>' around it. Yeah, definitely nice to have.

Ah, there it is, thanks. Every time i looked I thought it was just my projects, my wife accuses me of only seeing what I expect to see.
I logged into my account to find that I was following 57 people and a 18 or so projects that I've never looked at before.

Hello HaD website developers team :-)
I'm adding a new feature to #HackaDump : saving the projects that are contributed to.
So I'm looking for test cases. It's easy to find hackers with no contribution, but harder for high numbers (to check if I have to loop somehow over several pages).
@Sophi Kravitz matches that criterion but I find a BUG in the pages :
https://hackaday.io/sophikravitz says "9 projects" on the button below the 6 first projects
https://hackaday.io/projects/hacker/542#projectsIContributeTo shows 39 projects !
Why is there such a difference ? How can I trust & use numbers that are displayed ?...
