I'm not saying you're wrong, there could be other reasons for the view count.
For example, here is one of my private projects, https://hackaday.io/project/190779 visiting says 'Page not found', but the server still sees the project path was visited.
But it's not other users/accounts viewing your content. They can't see it.
Hello
I have a question about security of private projects. Why do I have 85 views? also the views continually gain in amount slowly.
Hey I see how that looks confusing. It's including your own and any authorized contributors visits across any of the private projects pages. I'll check to see if it can be adjusted to not do that, but we haven't filtered these historically.
I would be nice if some javascript or serverside image scaling was added, most of my pictures taken with my mobile phone (Pixel6pro) is larger then 5MB making it a real hassle to add images to my project, instead of just adding them from my pone I need to get them over to my computer and rescale them. This make me less eager to add pictures at all and I add less pictures, and that is a pity, I assume this would be true for most new phones.
I hope there would be some simple rescale/repack JPG library that you could easily embed in the upload image workflow. If so it would be really helpful. Thanks for the site.
Just install the imageshrink app which is free on your phone. It's also useful for scaling photos to send by other means.
I just wanted to mention a few possible bugs and suggestions/complaints/man-yells-at-cloud.
Possible bugs:
- Under some scenarios, copy and pasting images in to the project log editor will cause the image to appear twice, however once you save the image will appear only once. If you remove the apparent duplicate, no image will appear at all.
- Sometimes when pasting in text, it will paste to the beginning of the editor field, regardless of where my cursor is. Saving as a draft and reopening works around this issue.
- I haven't been able to get the ability to position an image to one side and have text wraparound work at all. It works in the editor preview but once I save that formatting doesn't work and is lost.
Suggestion:
- It seems to only be possible for comments to nest up to three deep. Someone commented on my project > I replied > they replied > no more replies are possible. I could reply to my own initial reply but then I think the order would get mixed up and I'm not sure they would get the notification.
- This isn't a terrific format for feedback since I can't search the other 4500 comments to see if I'm repeating any, or get any reassurance that my issues are real and not just something I'm doing wrong. Also, searching on a search engine doesn't really work because it will always show results of projects on hackaday.io, not anything meta *about* hackaday.io directly.
Is it possible to have a white background? I really struggle with the black
Indeed. For those of us with rather less than perfect vision, the low-contrast grey-on black text is very difficult to read. And in general, for older people with presybopia, screens emitting more light cause the pupil to close slightly, making it easier to focus.
I know that young people with great eyesight love their low-contrast, dark screens; but if you're going to have just one option, it should be one that works for us older folks as well.
(This difficulty in reading the site, BTW, is probably the primary reason I don't follow stuff here much, and why I don't post any of my projects here.)
The default styling for handling vimeo embeds does not work at all. Video in front of text and bad sizing levels of bad. In order to make https://hackaday.io/project/190248/log/219832-prototype-chassis-hilt-fitting work at all, I had to hack together embed code and edit via HTML; the WYSIWYG editor just was not enough to get the job done.
Thanks, I'll look around and see why Vimeo is behaving differently from YouTube.
....Wow, this is an interesting avenue for feedback. Searching requires google with `site:`, and even then, it's a challenge. Some ability to search for discussion threads that contain all keywords would be an improvement.
Great resource! I love the contest- a real stimulation for innovation.
Have you considered a science based one? I am planning on building an openflexure microscope with some pretty sophisticated upgrades. That is just one example. There is a growing movement to open source research/methods/instrumentation.. I can't imagine what people could come up with.
Hi @dot_solutions - There is an 'Edit project' button on the top right of the project page. I've sent you a PM.
Hello - I just created a new project https://hackaday.io/project/191105-portable-radio-using-vacuum-tubes-radio-valves but if I search for it using the search box I can't find it!
Is there a delay before a new project becomes "findable"?
Yes. If you have a look at this feedback thread, you will see this question has been asked numerous time. Refer to the answer from admin for further details.
Hi Florian, many thanks for the help. I searched for "admin" on this page and the only other mention I could find is a question from you on the 4th Feb. Anyway thanks for your help and I will keep checking every few days.
There is bug in the edit project form, where the Description field character limit of the save process is less than the limit in the html input box.
Also why are the image captions not shown in the gallery view ??
I am also having trouble uploading the last few files I need for my education challenge entry, did anyone figure out a workaround? I was able to add my main project photo when the contest started
We can't upload any files! You may need to extend the deadline on the education challenge -- we have been unable to upload material.
I'm also unable to upload files - every file gives an "unsupported file type error"
I'll let you know when this is resolved, if it pertains to the Prize deadline just let me know.
Yes, it is for the prize deadline. Bill and I are trying to upload the rest of the materials for the Amateur Radio Receiver project. Thanks, Dean
I sent you a private message, if you can give it another go and let me know.
any recommended projects for hacking or hacking tool?
whats the best wifi deauther project for esp32&esp8266?also any good other projects? thanks
I'm unable to upload .tar.gz files for Zeptoforth project; "unsupported file type" error occurs. Renamed to .tgz but didn't work. Verified it's a valid file, so why can't it be accepted? It was always accepted before.
Thanks, there is an intermittent issue with some file uploads we are working on.
Looks like somehow an item on the global feed by Yubil has turned most of the text afterwards into strikeout text. It indicates inadequate quoting of special characters, probably the <
All of a sudden, for the first time, I have not been able to upload .tar.gz files for my project, zeptoforth. I get the following error "An error occurred uploading zeptoforth-0.61.0.tar.gz. This file type may currently be unsupported." I also tried renaming it to zeptoforth-0.61.0.tgz in case for some insane reason someone had coded in functionality to not accept .tar.gz endings, but that did not help. I verified that my file indeed is a valid .tar.gz file (I could unzip and untar it just fine locally), so that is not the problem. So what's up? Why on earth would .tar.gz files not be accepted (they have always been fine in the past)?
Have you tried this again recently, I did notice an issue a few days ago but it seemed to resolve itself.
I tried this again last night, with a different .tar.gz file (as I updated zeptoforth last night), and got the same exact issue.
Got it. Can you try and private message me any similar .tgz and .tar.gz file in messages?
I have sent you a message including the .tar.gz file I attempted to upload yesterday.
I just tried to attach the .tar.gz file to my project a moment ago, and it gave me the same error again.
yes, but why you don't clear this account or the project https://hackaday.io/MccallDolly
